A new RONA store in Nova Scotia

RONA MSJ Building Supplies in Barrington Passage is opening its doors

Boucherville, Québec, March 6, 2024 – RONA inc., one of Canada’s leading home improvement retailers operating or servicing some 425 corporate and affiliated stores under different banners, congratulates MSJ Building Supplies Ltd., owned by Tom MacDonell, for the opening of the RONA MSJ Building Supplies store located at 3854 Highway 3, in Barrington Passage (Nova Scotia). This opening represents a $350,000 local investment and created 10 jobs.

“With this new RONA store, we want to better meet the home improvement and business needs of our community. After several years in business and project development in the home improvement industry, it was natural for us to create a space to accompany those who share the same passion as us, both Pros and DIYers, in completing all their home improvement and construction projects," said Tom MacDonell who has been an entrepreneur his whole career, working in welding, metal working, sawmill installations, excavation & logging operations sectors. In 2007, he started MacDonell’s Small Jobs for renovations, residential & commercial projects.

The new store, featuring 5,025 sq. ft. of sales area and a 148,000 sq. ft lumber yard, currently offers a selection of lumber, building materials, and hardware products. More hardware products, as well as paint, plumbing, electrical, appliances, and seasonal products will be arriving in the coming months. The RONA MSJ Building Supplies store will offer drive-through service, as well as a dedicated Pro entrance and counter.

An entrepreneur at the service of his community

MSJ Building Supplies Ltd., sister company of MacDonell’s Small Jobs Ltd., is fast becoming the supplier of choice for building materials for shipbuilding, fish processing, local and government agencies, as well as for those who live and work in the Canadian lobster capital. Together, these sister companies have demonstrated an unrivalled commitment to their customers through the efficient delivery of products and services, while offering a competitive cost advantage.

MSJ Building Supplies Ltd. is looking to strengthen its position as an independent retailer of building materials and convenience goods in the Barrington market by leveraging the partnership of the RONA affiliated dealer network. MSJ Building Supplies Ltd. will benefit from RONA’s expertise, inventory management support, brand awareness, distribution strength, and buying power to achieve its business objectives within the community.

“We are delighted to be working with Tom MacDonell and Jim Allair, a well-known General Manager within the building supply industry. They both have many years of retail experience in home improvement, but above all, they share the same entrepreneurial passion as RONA,” said Philippe Element, Vice-President, Sales and Dealer Support. “We are confident that this team of dedicated and passionate people will bring their extensive expertise to local customers and deliver an exceptional customer experience.”
