RONA is now taking back used air conditioners in 14 Québec stores
- The company is expanding the pilot project—the only one of its kind in the province—it launched last year in collaboration with its partner GoRecycle which mission is to ensure that cooling appliances are properly recycled
- RONA received GoRecycle’s “Coup de cœur” award for its contribution to the organization’s mission
Boucherville, Québec, June 5, 2025 – RONA inc., one of Canada’s leading home improvement retailers, operating and servicing some 425 corporate and affiliated dealer stores, is now taking back used air conditioners in 14 of its corporate stores in Québec, and will do so until September 30, 2025. Moving season is right around the corner, so the timing is perfect for the company to begin the second phase of the pilot project it launched in four stores last year. Organized in collaboration with its partner, GoRecycle, RONA’s program ensures that cooling appliances are properly recycled. In fact, GoRecycle also awarded RONA its “Coup de cœur” award in recognition of this important initiative, which is the only one of its kind in Québec.
This service is added to the one RONA offers for used cooling appliances upon delivery of a new appliance purchased in one of its corporate RONA+ and RONA stores, or online at rona.ca. By implementing this program in collaboration with GoRecycle, the company’s goal is to provide its customers with an easily accessible alternative to dispose of these appliances, which cause significant GHG emissions when they are improperly discarded. The service, which enables consumers to bring their old air conditioners directly back to the store, is a first in the province of Québec.
“At RONA, we strive to do the right thing every day and be a good corporate citizen. We do so in a variety of ways, such as offering a wide selection of products in our ECO program and providing alternative solutions to help our customers properly dispose of their used cooling appliances. Of course, none of this would be possible without our dedicated teams and the amazing support of GoRecycle,” said Mélanie Lussier, Head, Communications, Public Affairs and Sustainable Development, RONA inc.
